the independent Electrical contractors

 of Southern Arizona

Why the IEC?

Independent Electrical Contractors of Southern Arizona is dedicated to the education and advancement of the electrical industry.  We partner with  independent electrical contractors of all sizes and offer a four year electrical apprenticeship program that is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship.   We strive to advance the interests of our members through excellent training, best practices, and professional work methods in order to promote and advance the merit shop philosophy.

Great Career

Our IEC membership is fully committed to easing your transition to the electrical industry and helping you build a successful career.  The electrical trade is one of the best paying fields in construction.  Earn a great starting wage with regular wage increases every six months (per work hours) while enrolled in the program.  Upon completion of the program you will have earned your journeyman certification, and with that, the sky is the limit!

On-The-Job Training

Our apprenticeship program combines on-the-job training with the proper technical schooling so that you can be successful in the electrical trade.  IEC apprentices are placed for employment with member contractors who are committed to the program.  With the supervision and leadership of experienced electricians, you will learn and develop the skills of the trade working full time in the field!  No experience required.  Earn as you learn!

Local and Nationwide Network

IEC has more than 50 chapter training centers nationwide.  Membership connects independent contractors with leading programs and vital industry support.  National provides benefits designed to help improve productivity and increase job safety, and represent open market businesses on the federal level.  Locally, enjoy participating with peers, networking, discussing issues, honing skills, and supporting an organization that continually feeds qualified journey level workers into the electrical trade.  National membership is included when you join!  This brings the added benefits of the ability to join forum groups with other owners from across the country, conventions, trainings, and other types of member support.

Great For Veterans

Are you being discharged from active duty and looking for a new career?  The IEC of Southern Arizona apprenticeship program can help!  This chapter is listed as an approved training provider institution for utilizing the G.I. Bill. The veteran is first responsible for getting approved for benefits from the VA.  Specific benefits and eligibility are determined by them.  Once approved, the IEC school certifying officer (SCO) can register the veteran through the VA online management system.  You will get paid by your employer and also receive VA benefits.  It's easy and you have earned it!

Job Placement

The IEC places apprentices with member contractors who have a strong commitment to the program.  Apprentices work full time, 40 hour per week while learning the trade.    Each contractor offers various opportunities and benefits.  Many, but not all, contractors offer paid time off, holidays, health insurance and 401K  savings opportunities.  What they all do have in common is excellent work experience and a desire for the trade to grow and thrive!

Borrowed Worker Program

Members have the ability to join the "borrowed worker program" when in need of additional help.  This program can be used to borrow or lend workers to other member contractors when needed.  Simply call the IEC office and we can assist if there is ever a need!
